coreav transcode is only in builds with a decoder backend (build features). It is supported for H.264 sources. Other source codecs (HEVC, AV1, VP9, VP8, ProRes) are experimental.
coreav transcode INPUT OUTPUT re-encodes the video of an MP4, MOV, Matroska or WebM file to H.264 in MP4 and copies its audio, as ffmpeg -i IN -c:v libx264 -c:a copy OUT.mp4 does. CoreAV decodes the video with the backends of the build, and the encoder is a separate program that you install: an x264 program, or an ffmpeg program built with libx264. CoreAV runs the encoder as a resource-limited process and gives it only raw frames. With an H.264 source, the options and the summary (coreav.transcode/1) are stable. With other source codecs, what the command does may change, while its options and summary stay the same (measurements).
